My intervention proposal

Hello everyone!

Today I would like to share with you my ideas to work with students lines (straight line and curve line), perpendicular, secant line and parallel, for the 3rd grade of primary education.

The first thing that I thought was that I would not give to the students an explication and book's exercises, because in that way they would not understand completely those concepts. So I decided to join geometry and real life, and show them that the geometry is everywhere and not just in concepts and books.

My proposal started with a riddle: today we are going to work with something that is always everywhere, what is it?

After three minutes saying a lot of things, students guessed right that was the lines and we started to point different lines in class. I explained them the different types of lines and crossings with real examples of objects inside the class, and when they understand it, we went to the playground for a better comprehension. I ask them to be in pairs or groups of three with their own notebooks and pencils. In the playground they had to found 1 thing only of straight lines, other one just with curve lines, 2 examples of perpendicular lines, 2 examples of secan lines and other 2 examples of parallel lines. When they founded those examples, they had to draw it and write where there were. After this exercise, we came back to the class and they put in common their results.

This activity was completely interesting and motivating for them, being a meaningful learning.

In the second day, we remembered all the concepts learned and then I ask them to play a new game to practice those concepts. The tables of the class were grouped in four and five students, so I used the adhesive tape of different colors, crossing them in the table. The objective of the game was figure out in groups what kind of cross were each line with the other ones.

This second activity also was so interesting and enjoyable for the students, and there is a way to work with them with out using the boring books and repetitive activities.

I hope you like my ideas and remember always be creative!
