TICs and Geometry
The technologies can be completely useful for improving the skills of children in geometry.
The technologies open us a wide world in which we can create many resources that we can not have in our hands. Therefore, it is a very useful tool to use in class with students.
In addition, children find the technologies very interesting and motivating, since in a certain part it is something that they use daily and that they can use alune, evolving and learning individually.
In my previous post, I explained my opinion about the best way to teach geometry: through nature. This way is which I think is the best to introduce geometry to children. On the other hand, I think that technologies can be one of the the best ways to help children practice in these geometric concepts that we hace already discovered: point, line, figure, polygons...
This difference that I propose between introducing concepts and practicing them is very simple: on the one hand, students must discover the new concepts that we propose, see them, observe them and find out what they are referring to; on the other hand, after this discovery, students must practice these concepts that they have just acquired in order to strengthen them to their knowledge, so they must repeatedly see this concept, use it, handle it, review it, decompose it and re-compose it. In this way the student´s learning will be much more complete.
Due to the great breadth of variety of exercise that we can find on the internet, for children it is a great tool that they can use for all the contents that they need to know in primary school.
